Raspberry Pi GPIO Breakout Board *PRO

This is the *Pro version of our Raspberry Pi breakout board which allows you to break out all the power, GPIO, I2C and SPI pins from the 26 pin Raspberry Pi header onto a solderless breadboard.

In addition to the standard board, this board has

  • 3.3V 500mA voltage regulator
  • LED power indicator.

The Raspberry Pi already has a 3.3V output so why the voltage regulator? Well the Raspberry Pi uses quite a lot of the onboard regulator's power output leaving very little for anything you may want to connect up that requires a 3.3V supply. So now you have 500mA at your disposal without affecting the Raspberry Pi's power.

Supplied in kit form, it includes the following

  • GPIO Breakout Board PCB with all surface mount components already soldered on
  • 2 x 13 way header pins
  • 26 way IDC box header.

Soldering is required to assemble the kit.

It does not include the GPIO cable, which is available separately in either 6 inch or 12 inch length.

  • Breaks out the 26 way GPIO pins onto breadboard
  • Includes separate 5V, 3V, 0V, SDA, SCL header on side of board for connecting to I2C devices

3.3V Voltage Regulator Supply

The 3.3V Voltage Regulator on the board gets its supply from the Raspberry Pi's 5V output - which comes directly from the supply to the Raspberry Pi. If you wish to use an external 5V supply, you can cut the track underneath the board (see photo's) which connects the Raspberry Pi breakout connector to the 5V pins on the board.

Raspberry Pi changes for Revision 2 Boards

Rapsberry Pi have made some changes to the port connections on the header socket for the latest Revision 2 boards. If you have a Revision 2 board (Easily identified by the two mounting holes on the board) then the following changes effect you

JTAG Debug Support

Two GPIO pins have been interchanged to allow a missing debug signal (ARM_TMS) to appear on P1 pin 13.

Originally the connections were:

  • CAM_GPIO [BCM2835/GPIO27] routed to S5 pin 11
  • GPIO_GEN2 [BCM2835/GPIO21] routed to P1 pin 13

The new connections are:

  • CAM_GPIO [BCM2835/GPIO21] routed to S5 pin 11
  • GPIO_GEN2 [BCM2835/GPIO27] routed to P1 pin 13

I2C Support on P1/P6

The primary and secondary I2C channels have been reversed.

Originally the connections were:

  • SCL0 [BCM2835/GPIO1] routed to P1 pin 5
  • SDA0 [BCM2835/GPIO0] routed to P1 pin 3
  • SCL1 [BCM2835/GPIO3] routed to S5 pin 13
  • SDA1 [BCM2835/GPIO2] routed to S5 pin 14

The new connections are:

  • SCL0 [BCM2835/GPIO1] routed to S5 pin 13
  • SDA0 [BCM2835/GPIO0] routed to S5 pin 14
  • SCL1 [BCM2835/GPIO3] routed to P1 pin 5
  • SDA1 [BCM2835/GPIO2] routed to P1 pin 3
